Beat the Backlist 2019 TBR

beat the backlist 2019

My owned TBR is out of control and yet I have a (very expensive) habit of buying new books and reading those first. When I heard about this 2019 challenge, I knew I wanted to participate and encourage myself to knock some of the backlist books I own off my TBR. If you’re interested in learning more about this challenge or signing up yourself, you can do so here.

I’m away at school and I don’t have all of my books with me, so I’m just going to list a tentative TBR based on the first backlist books that come to mind. My Goodreads goal for the year is 40 books, so I want at least 15 of them to be backlist books. Hopefully I’ll read even more, and they may be different ones than those listed below, but as long as I finish some books from my owned TBR I’ll be happy. As far as the books listed below, I find their synopses to be really intriguing and have heard great things about them for the most part, and I hope to finally get to them.

Let’s chat!

Have you read any of these books? Do you have any backlist books that you’re planning on reading? Are you participating in any fun reading challenges this year?

    1. I’m so glad to hear that!! 💜 I’m planning on reading Legendary just in time for Finale to come out. I’m also really excited for Alexandra Christo’s new book to come out later this year. I’ve heard COBAB is really unique! I hope you love them when you get to them! Maybe we can buddy read one of them 😉

    1. I hope you enjoy them when you read them! 🙂 What’d you think of Caraval? Haha, I’m totally with you on having a thing for mermaids! 😉 That’s what initially drew me to those two books, and I’m so glad you loved them! Now I’m just sitting here wishing I could be a mermaid, haha.

      1. So I actually have tab at the top of my page where I keep track of my backlist progress throughout the year. So far though I have read 2 books off my original list, and 4 additional backlisted titles :]

Best of luck to you as well!

      2. I’m so unobservant sometimes, haha 🙈 I just looked at it. I read Sky in the Deep this January too! And I just ordered Blood Water Paint, which I’ve been meaning to read forever. What’d you think of it?

        Thank you! 🙂

  1. A lot of these are my my TBR. haha Turtles All the Way Down is one of my favorite books. So so good! And unfortunately I didn’t like Legendary as much as I did Caraval but I hope you love it 🙂 Good luck Kelly!

    1. I hope you enjoy them when you get to them! If you’re up for a buddy read of any of them, let me know 🙂 I’m so glad you loved it! Are you a big fan of John Green? Thanks so much 🙂 Are you still going to read Finale? Thank you Rachael!

      1. I’ve never done a buddy read so that would be very cool! I’ve actually only read TFIOS and TATWD so I can’t say I’m a BIG John Green fan since I haven’t read any of his other works. But I have enjoyed what I’ve read so far. & yes I do plan on still reading Finale since I’m curious to see how the series will wrap up. I just loved the magical/mystery aspect of Caraval and I felt like Legendary wasn’t as magical as I had hoped.

      2. Yay! We can definitely plan one then, maybe for this summer if that works for you 🙂 I’m with you there. I’ve only read TFIOS and Looking for Alaska and I enjoyed them but I’m not sure I can call myself a big fan until I’ve read all of them either. That makes sense, and hopefully Finale will redeem the trilogy for you! I totally understand that, the magical/mystery aspect was one of my favorite parts of Caraval too!

      1. Hmmm … well, I rated Legendary slightly higher than Caraval on my blog, but only by 1/2 a star. So I liked them both haha. They were different from each other because the POVs were different. I guess it would just depend on which POV you connect with more: Scarlett or Tella.

      2. Haha that makes sense. I know a lot of people hated Scarlett. I wouldn’t say I connected with her necessarily, but she didn’t drive me crazy. I’m curious to see what I think of reading from Tella’s perspective though.

  2. What a great idea and solid goal. I should probably do this too. We have a few books in common on a tbr. I also want to read children of blood and bone and ace of shades.

    1. Thank you! It’s about time I finally read some of the books I already own, haha. I’m actually planning on reading Ace of Shades in April for the OWLs readathon before its sequel comes out. I hope you love both of them 🙂
